I got a mac in December. I’m a keen Linux user (no Windows at my place) but I wanted a portable computer, and in my mind Linux doesn’t cut the mustard on a laptop. My Macbook is good. Unix backend, handles the laptop beautifully, all the free GNU and open source tools I know and love are available for it, actually works straight out of the box for many things I would need to tinker with in Linux (eg video capture and edit)… and the kinda cool interface is a bonus (even though it is kinda dated next to Linux).

Despite the disappointment with their marketing, I did actually check their prices. And I saw that little has changed in the fact that they are still grossly overpriced in comparison to the same spec's supplied by other PC manufacturers. There just isn't any compelling reason to spend more money for an Apple PC with lower specs. The only reason would be if I needed to run software that was not available on any other PC - and that's the kind of problem that buying an Apple PC would be more likely to cause rather than solve.

Maybe its a slogan only ‘trendy’ people understand? And by ‘trendy’ I mean people who are excited by pretty colours and name brands and don’t really care what a Mac is, as long as it will make them more accepted by their peers.

So when does yours arrive Jeff?

I would love to have a Mac, I just don’t know what I would do with all the free time I would have because I wasn’t pulling the computer apart trying to make things work.

hey jeffro,
i love your comments on andrewg.tv so i thought i’d have a look at your blog. looks great so far. i totally agree with your comment on chaser apec at g’s blog, and i also agree with Dave. i cant believe that the chaser boys can stilll go unrecognised in sydney. i mean seriously, surely everyone who looks at any australian media know about them by now. i have friends who go into teh city to places like Martin Place just to look for chaser stunts. At my school the name Chas or Julian dropped in conversatin immediately gets a ‘how funny was it last night?.’

one last thing, i do wonder what was the response from the actual Canadian PM on the stunt? i’d dearly love to know.

I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. I’m impressed that they can continue to get away with what they do. Surely most of the population of Australia recognize these faces by now.

I’m just very happy that they have stayed with the ABC to date, although I’m sure that the commercial stations won’t be too far behind in backing something similar (and making a mess of it).
